1. What cookies do here
A cookie is a small file a website puts in your browser. This site uses two kinds: one that remembers a choice you made yourself, and one that measures how the site is used. That measurement is on by default, and you can turn it off with one click at the bottom of this page.
2. Functional cookies
These remember a choice you made yourself. We do not ask consent for them, and we do not have to: they only record what you clicked.

3. Analytics cookies
With Google Analytics we count how many visitors come, which pages they read and where they come from. We use that to improve the site: which explanation gets read, and which page nobody finds.

We do not place these cookies if you have turned the measurement off, and if you turn it off later, we delete them right away.
4. Why no cookie banner?
The Dutch cookie rules (Article 11.7a of the Telecommunications Act) allow analytics cookies without prior consent when they have no or only minor consequences for your privacy. Our measurement is set up accordingly:
- We only measure visitor numbers and usage statistics, solely to improve the site. There are no advertising or marketing purposes.
- All advertising features of Google Analytics are off: no Google Signals, no ad personalisation and no links to other Google services.
- We have a data processing agreement with Google and have turned off data sharing with Google for its own purposes. Google Analytics 4 also does not store IP addresses.
- Google keeps the measurement data for at most 2 months, the shortest setting there is. Google is based in the United States; the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission apply to that transfer.
- Whatever you fill in somewhere, such as your name or email address, never goes to Google.
That is why there is no banner anymore. If you still prefer not to be counted, turn the measurement off at the bottom of this page; we remember that choice for a year. Choices from the former cookie banner lapsed with the move to this model, because they answered a question (consent for analytics cookies) we no longer ask; we clean up its old cookie automatically. What happens to your data beyond that is set out in our privacy statement.
5. Deleting cookies in your browser
You can also delete or block cookies in your browser. If you do, your language choice and your choice about the measurement go too, and the defaults apply again.
